The Caroline County Humane Society, Inc. (CCHS) was established in the mid 1980’s by a group of local residents.

In earlier years CCHS worked with the Commissioners of Caroline County to develop new animal control ordinances and improve animal welfare in the county. Volunteers were trained as investigators and contracted with the County to investigate cruelty and abuse of animals. Without the luxury of a public shelter, CCHS volunteers rescued and cared for unwanted animals in their homes. An active adoption program was made possible through the use of a website and public advertising. In 1995 plans were made to construct a new animal shelter and CCHS began raising building funds. Five years later, in a venture with the USDA and CCHS was able to build the first animal shelter in the County. In June 2000 the grand opening of the current facility of the CCHS was held.

CCHS has come a long way and has a long way to go. We are looking for businesses that want to partner with us to help the almost 2,000 animals come into the shelter each year. Please consider joining us and showing all your customers that you care about the Caroline County animals.
